We are thrilled to announce Lightnovo’s pivotal role in the LightCell project, an exciting initiative funded by The Innovation Fund Denmark through the IF – M-ERA.NET3 call 2022. This collaborative project, which runs from August 1, 2023, to August 1, 2026, brings together leading institutions: NIMP, TalTech, DTU, and DGIST.

What is LightCell?

The LightCell project, formally titled “Quasi-1D materials for advanced thin-film photovoltaics,” seeks to redefine sustainable energy by advancing Antimony chalcogenide thin-film solar cells. This work aims to set new standards in the efficiency and practicality of eco-friendly solar technologies.

:earth_africa: Our Goal: A Greener Tomorrow

LightCell is pioneering innovative thin-film photovoltaic (TF-PV) architectures using stable, inorganic materials (Sb₂X₃, X=S, Se) and energy-efficient production methods. These quasi-1D materials tackle a significant challenge in TF-PV—reducing carrier recombination at grain boundaries to enhance efficiency.

:microscope: Cutting-Edge Innovation at the Core

As part of this initiative, Lightnovo is developing a groundbreaking tool for rapid, non-destructive mapping of 2D and 3D crystallographic orientations in quasi-1D materials. This technology will provide real-time feedback for material optimization, advancing the scalability of sustainable, cost-effective, and lightweight PV solutions.

Towards Practical Applications

The project’s new PV solutions will be validated through demonstrators specifically designed for lightweight, building-integrated photovoltaic applications, bringing us closer to a sustainable energy future.
